Position
Belgrade is the
capital of Serbia and has
about 2 million
inhabitants. It is situated
in south-eastern Europe, on the Balkan
penninsula, at the
crossroads of routes
that connect Western and Central Europe
with the Aegean and
Black Sea, Turkey
and the Near East.
Its coordinates are:

116m above sea-level (city centre,

Time zone is Central European – CET
(GMT+1 hour). The summer daylight
saving time is from the end of March to

Serbian, Cyrillic
script, although Latin script is equally
used. Political system is a parlamentary
democracy.
Main religion is Christian – Orthodox.
Climate
Climate is mildly continental. Summers
are very hot (temperature reaches
38˚C), and winters are cold (to
-10˚C).
Spring is short and changeable, and
autumn with longer sunny and warm
periods. Rain is the heaviest in May and
June, and the lightest in February.
One-day rainfalls are the most common.
